While staying at the Hodgson residence, Ed and Lorraine consult with other paranormal investigators, including Maurice Grosse and Anita Gregory, on the legitimacy of the case. They also attempt to communicate with Wilkins' spirit, hoping to convince him to stop haunting the family. One night, after the Hodgsons are again tormented by the poltergeist, Gregory presents video evidence of Janet "faking" the hauntings by intentionally breaking things in the kitchen, thus debunking the case. On this basis, Ed and Lorraine decide to leave, but soon discover that the spirit of Wilkins is only a pawn being manipulated by the demonic nun, to break Janet's will. Lorraine then realizes that her visions of the nun were a warning, and that the demon's name is the key to defeating it.
